Takeaways from wrestleoffs

only got to see 141 and up and got the recaps from the lighter weights

141
as much as I like to see action and taking some risks for more shots, that can be for practice and sometimes the wrestleoff is for testing your patience and winning on the mat when that's what needs to be done. Hopefully we seem B. Moore get the additional edge in future matches and run up the score on some takedowns though I get winning this way for now.

Chisko seemed dominant and glad to he didn't coast and sit on the lead.

Glad to see Blees open it up in the later parts of the match and come away with some takedowns. Nothing to worry about there.

Most hyped match of the night and didn't dissapoint.
Biggest surprise of the night seeing tFr Lewis with the late T2 for the lead, then AA DMF getting out and scoring his own T2 and rideout for the win. Was really hoping to see Lewis get the late escape and send it to OT for more action. Certainly nothing to worry about at this weight knowing we have a returning AA and probable RS to constantly push him in the room. I don't know the back story, but I'll imagine Lewis decided earlier to RS and use the wrestleoff to go for the biggest challenge he could against fellow former NJ 2xHS champ. I think for RS's its best not to have them cut too much weight and focus on the technique and rising to the NCAA D1 level. Lots to be excited about for both - hope that Lewis takes up freestyle and they push each other all year long.

Don't know that I place an expectation of AA on either, but feel comfortable with either. The question of RS'ing Bolen remains, but either way could work out. There are plenty of examples where the RS later on works out (ex: DMF, Zain@PSU), but with the new weight for Bolen I'd guess the RS is this year.

ZZ was everything we remember from him. Glad SS was able to push him and get the late T2. Should see big things from both of these guys and hopefully both pull in AAs in years to come. One can only hope their middle initials are also Z and S respectively.

JH looking good and glad to see him working leg attacks more than just upper body muscling. I think its an easy decision to RS Borst. He had that nice Granby roll you don't often see at that size. He has the talent, mobility, and technique. Hopefully this year he continues to develop that working with JH, ZZ, TR, TW, and AD. He started off strong, but I'm sure he'll adjust to AA D1 strong in the room.

HWY
Dunn certainly was the best option. Glad to see him initiating attacks and know he had an active RS year last year to include University Freestyle. Certainly has good practice partners in the room. His attacks weren't quite as clean as Ty's, but not many at HWY do. He's young and can develop that along with any of the weight adjustment needed.

Overall
Filling in as well as one could hope after losing 6 of 10 starters and 3 coaches from last year. Much thanks to keeping TR, Ty, and getting great assistants along with a good group of Fr waiting in the wings. I don't think I place the expectation of top 4 finish for the team, but top 8 should be within reach with a solid lineup from top to bottom. I'm most excited about the depth at the mid and upper weights which maybe pushes the starters to higher finishes.
