games it seems he is just trying to get around the edge and if he can't he goes out of bounds before contact; not looking to turn it up field or take on a defender to get a few more yards.

I seem to recall he plowed over a DB in impressive fashion several games back on a jet sweep. Maybe the coaches advised him to get what you can get and step out of bounds; not wanting to risk injury.
