Some notes from first two games...

Nickeil Alexander-Walker - 53 points in two games is obviously very good for the first two games of your career. But NAW has 53 points on only 30 shots (an effective fg% of 88.3%). He does tend to force in some areas where there isn't quite the opening necessary, but it is better to flow towards too aggressive as a young player than not aggressive enough. 50% from 3 is only going to open things up for the offense.

Justin Robinson - Quietly averaging 6.5 assists per game. Also shooting 62.5% from 3. I will be interested to compare late season production from this season and last season. He will certainly be less tired this year. Just a quick comparison on the (admittedly) short season to last year:

Last year
31.5 mpg
10.4 ppg
4.8 apg

This year
24 mpg
11 ppg
6.5 apg

7.5 less minutes per game, but better production. I imagine the production will dip with better competition, but not by much. And 7.5 minutes less per game over the course of a 33-game season is the equivalent of sitting during 8 games last season. That cannot be understated.

Kerry Blackshear - 76% from the field...were certainly missing that last season. Also very active on the boards, averaging a double-double. It hasn't hurt VT yet, but in both games KBJ got into some foul trouble early. Cannot happen against bigger, better teams.

Chris Clarke - 24 points and 15 rpg in only 38 minutes of action. Clarke's minutes will increase, but he also won't have to play the 30 mpg he played during conference last season (averaging 19 mpg so far). Lots of production, and deadly in transition as a passer and a finisher.

Ahmed Hill - 19.5 points, second on the team in minutes per game (behind NAW). It will be interesting when Bibbs comes back to see where his minutes will come from. Has to be one of the wings, but both starting wings are playing at a high level. I imagine both will taper down to about 22/23 minutes per game and the rest will come from Bede/Jackson/Wilson.

Other notes:

Devin Wilson is a great passer and above average defender of 4 positions, brings a different dynamic to the team from last season.

Bede/Jackson - both can score the ball in traffic and Bede has a ton of potential defensively.

Fullard - unless there's an injury to Fullard we don't know about, it's rough to see him not log any minutes in a 40 point blowout. Until further notice, you might as well call him Johnny Hamilton.

PJ Horne - solid player, probably further along than expected at this point. Wanna see him defend bigger players who also have the ability to score to judge how long he can be trusted on the floor.

Don't fret over the high opponent scores so far this season, this team has a much higher ceiling defensively than any team Buzz has had at VT. The freshmen need to learn to move as a unit, Wilson and Blackshear need to shake some cobwebs defensively and Bibbs needs to return. Hokies won't score 100 every night (or most nights), but they have potential to hold teams under 60
