So many what-if scenarios with a self-driving society.
Specifically, the transition period. When you've got a mix of self-driving + old cars.
What about police/county revenue? As traffic violations decrease (presumably), where does the extra revenue come from?
What if the government mandates "all vehicles must be self-driving by 20xx" -- who pays for that? Cash for clunkers? How do poor people afford high-technology cars?
If only the poor people are left with old cars (and by default, the speeding tickets, DUI, etc) -- do we get the argument that traffic/speeding laws discriminate against certain groups? Do the police start to "profile" old cars, knowing that self-driving cars rarely break the law?
