Still, I don't see how the business owner could be charged with a crime here. He doesn't work there. He doesn't do the hiring. He doesn't train the staff. I'm guessing Minnesota must have some law that specifically assigns criminal liability to the owner in similar cases, but that's jacked up.

The employee committed the crime by selling the beer. If the employ had shot the customer instead, would Kalil be charged with murder? If the employee lifted the customer's wallet, would Kalil be charged with theft?

Obviously, no and no...seems like a dumb law.
