On a serious note, I was agreeing with your point....
I don't know what the numbers are these days, 50k? 30k? but half that number is probably drunks.
Sure, you'll have a set of algorithms that gets you there 99.999999% of the time, but like airline crashes there will always be that one exceptional moment and once they examine the evidence they'll fix that and add another 9 to the safety percentage. Meanwhile the ten people they kill will be greatly outweighed by the 15K drunks/druggies that are not driving.
It makes for interesting insurance claims too, should a person be able to sue the auto industry b/c the car just drove you off the Hoover dam while they've been saving 15k lives?
So yes, there will be a point where those will be the facts and it would become mandatory. I still like driving though.
