You are right that most people think Friday night is for HS football


However, what people may not realize is that idea may have been influenced by what was going on during the segregation era. During segregation it appears it wasn't uncommon for only the white schools to play on Fridays (if they had lights) and the African-American schools played earlier in the week or on Saturdays. When the schools integrated most continued with the Friday night schedule. However, there were a few states (i.e. California, Texas, Nevada, Florida, etc) that kept the Thursday and/or Saturday schedule regardless if the field had lights or not.
