Amtrak represents just .007 percent of all daily commuter trips and just
.4 percent of intercity trips. Per the experts, the average taxpayer subsidy per Amtrak rider is $100 per trip.
Even the CBO stated that on most routes it would be cheaper for the Federal Government to buy airline tickets in bulk and issue them to train customers in lieu of them actually traveling on the train.
