Stars will never look like more than white dots in the sky. There too far


away. Some things that will look good though:

1. The moon, preferrably not a full moon. You'll see shadows along the edge of a crescent moon. Pretty cool.

2. Jupiter and its moons. You should be able to see cloud banding and the four Galilean moons, even with a small telescope.

3. Saturn. You'll be able to see the rings, which is super cool.

4. Venus. Venus has phases much like the moon, which is cool.

5. The Orion Nebula. Just point for the second star in Orion's sword and you'll see the gasses of the nebula. The nebula is visible with a decent set of binoculars as well.

Don't stress over Mars. Not much to see there unless you have a really good telescope. Not all of these are visible right now, but on a night when I can catch the moon, Jupiter, and the Orion Nebula, I'm happy. At least where I'm at now, Jupiter is in the sky too darn late/early for me to see it. Saturn is setting with the sun, so that's out for me as well.
