I do agree with there are other factors involved besides talent

However, I do think the distinction between college talent vs. pro talent does is a factor at some level. There are plenty of examples out there where someone was "great" in college, but didn't have a long pro career for one reason or another. Also, there are examples out there where a player wasn't exactly "great" in college, but has somehow found a way to have a long pro career even as a journeyman.

During one of the televised the announcers were talking about why teams with losing records were having great success at having players play multiple years in the pro leagues. While teams with winning records were having a more difficult time achieving that same goal. One announcer thought it was easier for HCs to build a "team identity" with players that were not "NFL ready." He thought the "NFL ready" players were more liking to put their personal goals ahead of the team's goals. Also, he thought the systems used by coaches in the college game didn't always translate to the pros. After all college coaches were hired to win games; not prepare the players to play at the next level. So from a recruiting aspect I find it interesting how a coach can balance between pitching his "system" to a recruit and the idea of preparing a recruit to play in the pros some day.
