FWIW, State Farm is NOT like a good neighbor
Sorry for venting, but I am just super annoyed.
Stepson hit a deer and totaled my old Honda Pilot on October 27. Took more than two hours for State Farm to dispatch a wrecker that night. Vehicle was considered totaled because it is older and high mileage and the repair cost (for body work primarily) was substantial in relation to value. State Farm made a low ball offer based on non-comparable vehicles. I documented my settlement request and it took about four or five calls to get a new offer (which, absurdly, was for a little more than I was asking). State Farm has now had the title in hand for more than a week and has yet to issue payment for the claim.
The left hand of State Farm never knows what the right hand is doing. They have people in Arizona dispatching wreckers to fetch cars in West Virginia. They have minions all over the company "handling" claims. They have another separate vendor suggesting vehicle values. They have yet another group processing the titles.
I'm a lawyer and though I've not done the car wreck stuff, I've represented insurance companies and their insureds for about 20 years. The way State Farm has handled this relatively simple claim is just absurd.
State Farm currently insures all of our vehicles and my home. I'm going to be shopping for a new insurer very shortly.
