My late father used to make his own wine. Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at it. As the big Thanksgiving Day dinner was coming to a close, before the pies were brought out, he would excuse himself and then reappear with a tray of glasses filled with his latest wine production. Everyone would graciously accept a glass, listen to his toast, and gag down the wine. It usually had a taste similar to vinegar and Gatorade. Before the dinner we would dray straws to determine who would asks for seconds. My best memory was when my then 17 year old dweb nephew had his first tasting, held up the empty glass and exclaimed "Exquisite, may I have another".
Now, many years after my father's passing, I have taken up the hobby of home brewing my own beer. I admit that I am still a novice but am improving with each batch. And to honor my late father, after today's dinner I will quietly excuse myself and return with a tray of glasses filled with my latest home brew for sampling.
