In March of 1969.

VT played the U of Houston Cougars in the Coliseum (as it was then known). The year before the Hokies had played UH (with Elvin Hayes) in Houston and were destroyed.

During warm-ups UH came out and put on a pre-game with spectaular dunking. It was so impressive that they got a loud standing ovation from the VT crowd.

But it was the wrong thing for the Cougars to do. Pumped VT came put and won the game 74-68 (I think). Without the ovation I think UH wins. One of the loudest Colisuem crowds I can remember.

Interestingly, Hokiesports.com shows that game as being played in Houston. But the UH website (correctly) shows it in Blacksburg.

A tangent maybe but kinda related to your post and a great Hokie memory.

Anybody else recall that game?
