No the rankings set the points. So if after the Conf Champ games you beat 3 top 5 teams, you get 15 points from that alone. By the way, you can still project on rankings based on where they are in October, but that's all it is, a projection. Of course the SOS/rankings they have now is the same thing. The Alabama win over Florida State ended up not being that valuable. You put all of your OOC games in one basket, don't do that.

The point is schedule up and you are rewarded, schedule down and you are not rewarded. Right now the B1G and PAC play 9 conference games and the ACC and SEC play 8. That's not an even playing field if your other game is Mercer or Louisiana Lafayette. You want to schedule 8 instead of 9, go get at least two P65 teams on your OOC and beat them.

Right now the system rewards for scheduling the least you can schedule most of the time. That's awful for the game of College Football. That diminishes interest and they cannot afford that in the long run.
