Re: Old Line Hokie, two in a row for the USMA and the Commander in Chief trophy

First time Army has won the Commander-in-Chief's trophy since 1996.

As for Army and Navy, both have lessened restrictions the past few years. Army has a 6'5"/305 pound OL who has a chance at the NFL. Army already has an OL playing for the Steelers. The U.S. Department of Defense has to make a decision if they want the military academies to compete at the highest level. If they allow NFL-bound players to be exempt from the mandatory 5-year military service requirement, all 3 FBS military schools may further improve recruiting in football and basketball. My brother is a proud graduate of the USMA-West Point and has told me numerous times that most cadets would still serve the 5 year military requirement even if they were drafted by the NFL. That's how much these cadets and midshipmen love and honor their country. It takes special young men and women to serve at the military academies.

Can Army and Navy compete athletically in the ACC? I believe that they can, but it would be very difficult for both of them to compete at the highest level in football and men's basketball. Navy did very well in basketball with David Robinson during the mid to late 1980's but that was an anomaly. If they could recruit players of that caliber, then they could compete but realistically, Army and Navy would likely finish in the bottom quarter every year in the competitive ACC. In football, both could finish in the top half regularly. Wake and Duke have done so, so it's very possible. IMHO, Army and Navy would do well in sports like lacrosse. field hockey, golf, and soccer and even baseball and softball.

I've visited both the USNA in Annapolis and the USMA in West Point. Both campuses are impressive and pristine. USNA is located the Severn River and Chesapeake Bay. USNA is impressive at night. The USMA is located on the banks of the Hudson River, not far from the Catskill Mountains. Virginia Tech and West Point have the same architecture. Both academies have nice football stadiums. West Point's Michie Stadium is one of the must see football stadiums in America. I'd love to see Tech play a home and home series with them. I think that our Corps of Cadets would enjoy the experience.
