but we must be careful of images we project.

Suppose you gave this description,

"I’m buoyed knowing that those forty drinking, dreadlocked young thugs in the 7-11 had such a generous, wise role model."

None of the 8 descriptors in our statements are exclusive to any group of people, yet we all get a different picture in mind when we hear them.

IMHO the context of the conversation you heard justified your use of these generic, but stereotypical, descriptors to accurately portray the situation you encountered and to emphasize your point.

In this holiday season I urge all to be accepting of all; and to recognize the context of comments, conversations and encounters. Take a second before you say, or react to, something stereotypical. Unlike ALL our news media, not everything is intended as premeditated bias.
