Tinkering too much with the rules probably hasn't helped either


I get why the NFL moved the PAT back. However, I think there were other options the NFL could have explored before going with this decision. Also, it did not help that reports indicated that Goodell (or the NFL) is trying to eliminate kickoffs and maybe PATs from the game. I am surprised that punts, FGs, and safety kickoffs were not included in that "goal."

If the NFL removes special teams from its version of the game, then it may not be American football anymore. It would be like MLB deciding one day to replace baseballs with either wiffle balls or softballs or requiring all pitches to be thrown underhand. A some point when a league tinkers with the rules of the sport, then it stops being the sport that everyone knows and becomes some other sport (see Canadian Football vs. American Football vs. Aussie Rules Football).
