My general philosphy is "we" is fine for high school and college sports

Assuming you went to the school, then you are a legitimate member of the organization that the athletic programs represent.

But once you get into professional sports, that is off the table. Saying "we" to refer to the Dallas Cowboys if you are one of their fans makes as much sense as saying "we" to refer to the Bosch corporation because you like their dishwashers.

To a professional sports franchise, you are not a member of their organization. You are simply one of their many customers as they try to run a multi-million (or billion) dollar organization.
