I've actually ALWAYS found local shops beating Tire Rack

albeit not by a LOT, and it does depend on your definition of 'local'. In my case, I'm comparing to regional chain type dealers.

By the time you add shipping, mounting, balancing, etc. to a Tire Rack price...you can almost always find a local that will be right there within a few bucks a tire either way.
