Do the most recent layoffs at ESPN mean...

that ESPNNEWS will eventually become the linear ACC Network?

I think so. Most of the recent cuts at the four-letter network involve a number of resources dedicated to SportsCenter. Most notably, there will be less SportsCenter programming on ESPNNews, meaning that the network will carry mostly PTI and Around the Horn Reruns along with some live sports programming. Bill Roth featured as the PxP man for AAC football on ESPN News this past season.

With the News leaving ESPN News, I have a feeling that we will be learning soon about that network's rebranding to the ACC Network. The rebranding will solve a number of potential issues around carriage as News is on all of the leading MVPDs around the country. Also, ESPN needs a home for that large ACC rights investment and using a currently-standing network to carry that programming will deliver on that investment without getting into a nasty carriage fight.
