Good lyrics reference. Saw them live in Squires with "The Long

Ryders" opening for them. Great show.

I loved how they showed their roots. In between songs while DiNizio was getting a drink (or maybe even a cigarette puff?), one of the other guys would start playing an old Who tune, or some other song by a classic rock group. Another guy would join in, then the third, and DiNizio would come back over to the mic, pick it up, sing the first line or something, then the guitarist would just slide the pick up the neck and they'd break into the next Smithereens song. You could tell that they used to be a cover band, and these were some of the songs they did back then.

They actually did "The Seeker" by The Who in their set, and I loved "White Castle Blues", which I was able to find on a rarities album years later.

I have most, maybe all, of their original recordings. Sad loss.
