Was driving on 81 between Christiansburg and Roanoke...
...once when the bridges were accumulating a thin sheet of ice. Most people in 4x4s thought it wouldn't be any worse than driving in snow...unfortunately several of those slid off and down the embankment. I was in my trusty 4x2 truck, and made it across without any drama.
How did I do it? I just made sure I had enough speed to reach the other side of the bridge, pointed it straight ahead and took it out of gear. No (minimal) steering inputs and not accelerator inputs. I just rolled across the bridge.
Now that doesn't work if you have a curvy hill you need to climb...you're basically screwed. In that situation, follow Will's example to park & walk.
