Another way of looking at it is that schools have work-study programs or ways for students work on campus. If a student is working at Die Quick and VT accidentally pays that students for hours he/she didn't work, then does VT try to recover that money or not? Depending on what VT does in that situation may give insight on what it does about the scholarship/stipend. VT may have to comply with federal tax and Title 7/8/9 laws (Title 9 might not be the only one involved here) even if it means offending the student-athlete.
