That used to be the case

but with social media, blogs, etc. and the ease of "publication" for every Tom, Dick and Sally it has watered down the "believeability" of any and all "reports".

Nobody is really stifled in expressing themselves, regardless of what they believe - there is an outlet with their particular bias somewhere.
