My nephew gave us a Dot a couple weeks ago. It's a novelty item...


mostly. Now that it's incorporated into the house I can't find anything that it does that is actually helpful enough that I couldn't do in other ways. However, we don't yet have the smart thermostats, smart plugs, etc., so I'll reserve final judgment until we add a few other devices around the house.

All that said, for $29.95 a Dot would make for a good Christmas gift. The more expensive big brother apparently has a bigger & better speaker, but our Dot is connected to the stereo so that's not an issue for us.
