Today is the first day of finals. I don't know anything other than what I got in the following e-mail from the Office of the Dean of Students.

Dear Faculty Member:

Our university community experienced a student death during the night. The deceased student was widely known through student organizations and a vast circle of friends. A student with this ID number XXXXXXX is connected to the deceased student and enrolled in one of your courses. Given that exams are already underway, there is not time to follow normal protocol for notifying faculty members of students possibly missing exams. In partnership with the University Registrar and the Associate Dean in your college, this is the timeliest way to notify you. Our staff has encouraged students to speak with you and determine options for exams. Students understand any options for change or delay of exams is your decision. Thanks for any support you can offer these students.
