In equivalency sports, there are not headcount limits
that's kinda the whole point.
And I don't think there are any roster limits...given that VT shows 30 men's soccer players and Stanford shows 27, I seriously doubt it.
Maybe here's the way to make the point:
Men's soccer get's 9.9 scholarships. Equivalency, not headcount.
So Stanford can go find 20 needy kids who are fabulous at soccer...and fully-fund them with need-based aid...and then go find 10 kids who are rich and fabulous at soccer...and *almost* fully-fund them with scholarships. They can rather easily create a roster where 29.9 out of 30 kids are fully funded.
If VT targeted the exact same group, they can't come even close to funding them. I don't think VT could fund even 1 *in-state* kid based on need alone. Stanford can fund 20, regardless of state.
Honestly, you could probably tell Stanford they have *zero* athletic scholarships and they'd not be at a disadvantage to VT.
