While the numbers seem close together.

The difference between a high 84 and a low 87 isn't trivial either. Also don't forget our current class is not done yet and is likely to go up a tad more (best case scenario into the 88s but more realistically to the mid-upper 87s). Scout being out of the equation has a slight impact, but it's not like the class went from being regarded in the same breath as a mid-major to being a top 25 class.

I'm not sitting here saying that our recruiting is perfect and with the guys we have we're going to go win 3 national championships. But this year's class is at least a small notch ahead of what we've had the last several years (best since at least 2013 per the data you brought up). The trend is clearly in the right direction. We could argue the degree of how much in the right direction the trend is.. but there is clear improvement.

Don't forget, I was a skeptic about Fuente and co regarding how well recruiting would go. So far, I'm happy though continued improvement is needed. I'd love to see us crack the top 20 in recruiting. It's a long shot this year. Maybe we can break that barrier next year.

Also, when you compare our recruits this year and their offers compared to the offers from previous recruits in recent classes, the trend of upward progress is even more clear.
