Again, you're letting the closeness of the numbers fool you
Yes, the difference between 86.49 and 87.24 isn't that much. In 2016, we were 84.85. This year we're 87.03 so far (should get a little better before the year is over).
For comparison.
In 2017's class, Mississippi State and Missouri each brought in 25 recruits. Missouri's class average 84.59. Mississippi State averaged 86.11. Not a huge difference right? WRONG. Missouri's class was rated 43rd while Mississippi State's rated 24th. Pitt rated 37th with 25 recruits and an 84.94 average.
The thing is that just about all of the major schools are right around the low-mid 80s up to the low 90s or so. Yes, recruiting is inexact. But the numbers used do show slight improvement. I think offers are another good way to look at recruiting and if you use offers you can see an even more clear improvement with regards to our recruiting over the last few years.
We're not recruiting national championship classes or anything right now. But we've gone from average ACC classes to being back to above average. Hopefully the momentum can continue.
