I agree with your assessment. I just think the rules state otherwise.
That SHOULD HAVE BEEN a touchdown. I just think the rules currently state that it is not. The language about "completing the catch to the ground" is the issue, in my opinion. It doesn't leave room for instances such as this, where a receiver clearly demonstrates control of the football, and thus possession, but reaches out in an attempt to gain yardage/cross the goalline, and as a result loses "control" of the ball as he hits the ground. The rulebook does not seem to allow room for common sense to prevail in these types of replay rulings. It's one of the many reasons I don't give a crap about the NFL.
