And when you have both coaching and talent in a program, it leads to success. The talent is increasingly becoming concentrated in a handful of states. The ACC and SEC are blessed with access to the highest number of those states by having members in them.

Here's and article highlighting the 10 strongest recruiting states for college football. The ACC has members in 5 of the 10. (North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Florida). The SEC has members in 5 of the 10. (Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and Texas).

The Big Ten has members in 2 of the ten (Pennsylvania, and Ohio). The PAC12 in 1 of the ten (California). The Big XII in 1 of the ten (Texas).

The ACC is positioned well for continued access to talent based on our geography. But you'll notice that with Texas, Florida, and Georgia as the very top states, the SEC is in the best position. It's showing itself in championships. This geographic impact wasn't lost to Notre Dame. Playing in the ACC states gives them access. They also play in California.

It was apparently lost on Maryland. They gave it up. But I had hoped someone like Penn State would have realized this and became interested in the ACC. But I guess Pitt will have to do a lot better than they have to make the point.
