The current structure was a legal method against any legal action by G5


G-5 schools signed offf of the deal to guarantee access to a new years's day prime bowl and be associated with the current championship. They advised their teams would be considered for a slot, but frankly, likelihood with 4 teams is almost impossible.

If the P5 schools idid not make the offer, the g-5 schools would have gone to coat for antitrust and claim they are members of division Ia and should be involved in any championship game, and a 'colluded action by a subset of the div ia the p5 is anit-trust. With mililion and million of dollars that the g5 schools have invested, that court case would have dragged on a long time.

The interesting play will be if we see the p5 consolidate to p4 and a school is left out..or another scenario notre dame does not support being forced into a conference. Lots of stuff......also, if the tourney goes to eight, there would be a movement of getting a G5 school into the mix and frankly the p5 schools don't REALLY won't them involved in the cost sharing.

That is why the 4 team tourney is stabilized and no interest in expending.
