Another potentially interesting poll question could be how the players felt about an 8 team playoff where there was no CCG either because the conferences got smaller (i.e. 8-10 members) or these super conferences opted to play a CCG for whatever reason.

The one problem I have with the SI article is it only sampled from Alabama and Clemson. It isn't clear if any G5 players were sampled. Also, it isn't clear whether the majority of P5 players believe that the G5 teams should or shouldn't be excluded from the playoffs or if the G5 teams should have their own playoff.

Personally, I am not a fan of having a playoff where 1 group is purposely excluded from competing for a national championship. If the FBS Playoff is not going to include the G5 teams and the G5 teams aren't going to have their own postseason, then I would much rather go back to the pre-BCA/BCS days when the AP Poll and Coaches Poll crown their champions. At least during that era a G5 team had a better opportunity to play for a national championship and fans were left to debate during the offseason would would have won the game between Team A and Team B.
