They were real, but not during the time portrayed in the show. Another

thing kind of cool is the reference to "The Red Right Hand" in the theme song. The song wasn't created for the show, but "The Red Right Hand" was also real, and I won't say more (spoiler alert).
All kinds of stuff about Churchill and the King that may or may not have been true that I also found fascinating.
