What Lord Saban has taught me

Listen to his post-game comments from last night. The word he repeats over and over again:

Process

Yeah...it's easier to fall back on "process" when your roster is loaded with 5-star kids...but OK. They have a process in place down there...and they try to find kids who can execute within that process. As opposed to grabbing the best kids available...and seeing what you can make of it.

I read an article yesterday about how paying assistant coaches millions will ruin college football. No...it will not. Head coaches and AD's are trying to copy what Saban has at 'Bama. The process. The system. It helps...a lot...when you have really good assistants and you're able to keep them. Sure Saban loses Coordinators every now and then...but he has the budget to reload.

I will never fear starting a true freshman again. Saban knows his kids are only hanging around for two years...three at the most...so he NEEDS really talented freshmen coming into the program. That's why it makes a difference to get commitments from 4 and 5-star kids...as opposed to 3-star kids. No...not every 5-star kid is going to be a star...but they're probably athletic enough to come in and contribute right away. I have faith in CJF...and we're starting to see evidence...that he can pull more talented kids into the program at VT. That's encouraging. Many of you have said repeatedly here...that recruiting better is THE key to competing for titles. Developing 2 and 3-star kids is awfully romantic...but it probably ain't gonna get it done.

Not terribly original thoughts here...just my .02 in the aftermath of Lord Saban's sixth ring.

When do tickets go on sale for the Spring Game...???
