Happy New Year Hokie Wrestling Faithful...
We are gearing up to head to Va Beach tomorrow and excited to get back to wrestling, after a 3 week break from competition. Our guys are healthy, and excited to scrap Friday and Saturday. We will see Campbell at 11 and ODU at 1 on Friday, and if we take care of our business we will wrestle in the Semis at 2 on Saturday.
We had a decent showing at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga 1/1-2, taking 5 true freshman, and one R-Sophmore in Cody Hughes. Each guy got atleast 2 wins with Stan Smeltzer taking 8th place at 184, and Mekhi Lewis placing 4th, losing twice to top 10 ranked Chance Marsteller.
The rest of the boys were back in town New Years Eve, prepping for this coming weekend. Soon after getting back from Chattanooga, Mekhi joined Coaches Molinaro, Walz, and Graff in Colorado Springs, where USA Wrestling is having a training camp, prepping National Team members for their tours to Cuba, Russia and the Ukraine. All 4 will be back later this week, to coach through the weekend.
School gets back into session next Tuesday, so we will go back to 3:30 Practices for anyone that would like to stop by, as we prep for Edinboro (19th) and Pitt (21st) both on the road.
FRIDAY after the ODU dual from 4-6pm we will have a VT Wrestling social at Louie's Bar and Grill across the street from the Colisseum (3530 Von Schilling Dr.) Robie, Myself and Coach Molinaro will be there, and we look forward to seeing many of our supporters...It will be very informal, we just wanted to have a common place reserved for everyone to enjoy.
