I still don't understand how the "big boys" can't do this...

yet the little FCS guys can. playing through college final exams to boot. Sure, P5 football is harder, but the games and practices still last the same length.

If the P5 eventally breaks away from the rest of the FBS G5 and goes to 4 major conferences (SEC, ACC, PAC and Big Ten), each with 16 squads, my proposal would be to create something similar to the NFL's NFC and AFC. The Big Ten & PAC could be in one superconference and the SEC & ACC in the other. The winner of each superconference title game plays in the National Title, and you'd never get a boring all SEC type matchup.

There would be 4 automatic bids with the conference champion with 4 wildcards. The wildcards have to have the best record in their conference or finish second behind the conference champ. If the 2nd place team in one conference finished 9-4, but the other conference had 2 schools that finished 10-2 and 11-2, then the latter conference would get 2 wildcards and the former none. Or..... you have the minor bowls play out to New Yeays day and have 4 wildcards selected from a pool of minor bowl winners. Only problem with that is the playoff won't start until the 2nd week of January.

No more rankings.

Conference Champioships would happen the first week in December. I like your 8-team schedule dates, but the NFL would hate it.

If that ever happens, I will be saddened because the P5 would be nothing more than NFL junior.
