What I've used it for in the past was to procure car parts...


...that are no longer being produced or sold. A lot of salvage yards are taking old cars apart and selling items like the interior pieces that were almost impossible to find before Ebay. I'm talking things like interior trim pieces...

If you were going to restore an old automobile in the pre-Ebay days, you usually had to find a second car and strip off all of the usable pieces. Salvage yards do that for you today, and those pieces are only a mouse click away. You also have the entire country supplying parts, instead of just whatever you could find locally, or at swap meets.
