VT's Performance at Virginia Duals .....

was outstanding throughout the weekend. Yes, they lost in the finals to Arizona State but there were no real surprises in the final. All but one favorite won as summarized below (used Intermat rankings):

125: #17 Ryan Milhof majored unranked Kyle Norstrem
133: #19 Ali Naser beat #13 Dennis Gustafson (very slightest of upsets based on rankings but Naser controlled Gus throughout and he beat UVA's Mueller on Friday)
141: UR Brent Moore beat UR Nicholas Villareal.
149: #16 Joshua Maruca beat UR Ryan Blees.
157: #7 Joshua Shields beat UR B.C. Laprade
165: #4 David McFadden majored #15 Anthony Valencia
174: #1 Zahid Valencia TF over UR Cody Hughes
184: #8 ZZ majored UR Kordell Norfleet
197: #2 Jared Haught majored UR Austyn Harris
285: #4 Tanner Hall beat #18 Andrew Dunn

Observations going forward:
1. Need continued growth for the R-Fr at 125, 141, and 157.
2. I expect Sully back at 149 soon but are we going to get previous years' Sully or the wrestler who started this year? If he comes back and struggles, we might see Blees there but although there has been improvement, his ceiling is not as high as Sully's (sorry, obvious conclusion there).
3. Gus will be solid going forward but ACC is very tough at this class, Mueller and Forys.
4. Continued bonus points for McFadden, ZZ, and Haught are expected.
5. Dunn's growth over the past 12 months is just outstanding and should continue. He looks better every time out.
6. May still be a 2-headed monster at 174. Robie was very dissatisfied with Bolen after the ODU match. May continue to see Cody Hughes at 174 in the near term.
