There was also a recent study that suggests playing football


at age 12 dramatically increases the likelihood of CTE. 12 is a magic number. Playing earlier doesn't increase the likelihood....it doesn't matter how long one plays. One's career could end in high school, college or the NFL -- it doesn't increase the likelihood of CTE to play football for 20 years versus 6 years.

It comes down to playing at 12 -- when the brain is at a particular stage of growth and development.
