It feels as though we're entering (if we haven't already)

An era where a rewards for a good season is a contract extension or renegotiation on an annual basis. The pressure on ADs to retain good coaches is such that a 9-3 season (at the vast majority of programs) means a new contract or an automatic pay bump. Perhaps my memory is incorrect on this, but this seems to have shifted from the old norm of waiting until there were two years left on a contract to renegotiate.

None of this to say that Fuente and his staff aren't deserving of everything thrown his way, but he's gotten two contract reconfigurations in two years and I assume if we have a successful 2018 that we will see a similar story in 2019.
