Thread count does not equate to softness. Or even quality, necessarily.


Softness is a function of the type of cotton used. You can’t even rely on the feel of the cotton before it is washed. I have bought cheap sweatshirts that felt great before they were washed the first time but were scratchy after washing.

I would need to Google the better quality cotton fibers to help further.
