VT's policy historically is hands-off, don't do anything illegal


Some universities were more proactive in trying to interdict BitTorrent and other types of P2P traffic, but if you played by the bandwidth limit rules**, they didn't do any filtering. If you were dumb enough to get hit with an MPAA/DMCA notice, though, they'd forward that to you and I think you had to agree to sit in a seminar or something. But, that applied to user endpoints connected to the campus infrastructure, if you were doing something like Bitcoin mining on actual university systems it'd be a way different story.

**If you circumvented these rules like I did for a long time, eventually they would get tired of you and threaten to kick your digital ass by means of student court.
