Pitt fans were frustrated with the team's consistent early-round exits in the NCAA's (conveniently forgetting two Sweet 16s and an Elite 8 earlier in his tenure). Dixon for his part was a fan of AD Steve Pederson who had left, and rumor has it he was never a big fan of the move from the Big East to the ACC.

Dixon seems reenergized by the move and has turned TCU around in a hurry with an NIT title in year one and a strong club this year. It's worked out well for him while clearly this was a classic case of be careful what you wish for for Pitt.
