Thoughts about the last part of the second half

For one, it is hard to evaluate a group of backups when they are all in together as each of their weaknesses get magnified without help from better players.

Bede - the offense dies with him to a degree. He over-dribbles, takes forever at the top to get anything started. Buzz had them start weaving to get the ball moving but Bede needs to start learning to run an offense. It does not have to be a break-neck offense but get the ball moving.

Jackson - He had a good first half. But it really felt like the game was too much about the Jackson family. We didn't need their family on the split-screen so much. But he started forcing things late in the second half. I bet Buzz told him to not make it about that when he came in during the first half for the first time. He showed nice hops to dunk twice.

Clarke/Hill - they should have been the leaders when they were on the court with Horne, Bede and Jackson and they were not. This should have been Hill's time to shine. Part of that was Bede holding on to the ball. A couple of Hill's shots were too far back from the 3-pt line and again bad form. Clarke should have been someone to rely on.

We went through a stretch with several turnovers, blocked shots, just not good offense.

Horne - Horned struggled for a stretch with the travels, playing too close to Jackson on one inbounds play in which he tried to drop a bounce pass to Jackson who was essentially 2 feet from Horne. Horne showed really good mobility which I think bodes well for his future. He can be out on the perimeter, help move the ball and show his athleticism. It will be good to see him take some mid-range jump shots like Leday would.

Overall - it was nice to see Wilson look to shoot and be assertive. The passing was nice and that is the type of passing all college teams should strive for, the passes to cutters on the baseline for example. College basketball has moved toward being a 1-on-1 game which gets away from really good team basketball. It was nice to see that when VT ballooned its lead.

I was surprised that GT didn't use their big guys much at all. That was partly a product of Jacckson and Akogi looking to shoot alot early in the game. So the scoring became about them early on. But to totally dominate GT in the second half for the most part, to threaten to go up by 40 points, that is impressive.
