Interesting to dig in the history of these picks
There wasn't a single DT taken in the 1st round of the draft in 2017, but six DEs were picked. The first DT taken was Malik McDowell, as the 35th overall pick. The Giants took Davlin Tomlinson as the second DT taken with the 55th overall pick.
Browns take a DT with the 1st pick o the 3rd round. Raiders take a DT with the 24th pick in the 3rd round. Two more DTs go late in the 3rd round. In 2017, no DTs in the 1st round, two taken in the 2nd round and four in the 3rd round.
Overall trend seems to be that teams don't use their first couple of picks to land inside defensive linemen.
Settle is currently viewed as the fifth best DT in the draft. Soflahokie, I agree, there is some truth to the idea you get in the league, prove yourself, and land the second deal when the time comes. But if 2017 is any indicator, Tim's name will be called in the 3rd or 4th rounds.
