Question for any statisticians out there
I'm curious what the odds of any one song starting to play at any point in time are. Just super rough is fine. For example, you go out to a restaurant for dinner that plays music from a local radio station, and just as you open the door to go in Maneater by Hall & Oates starts playing. What were the odds of that happening?
Certainly I think you need to know how often that particular radio station plays that particular song on any given day so let's just make up something realistic for that. Let's say this particular station plays Maneater once a day.
So for every second of the day there is one in 86,400 chances that Maneater will start to play. Is that it? 1 in 86,400?
Or do you need to factor in any song could have been playing at the precise second you walked into the restaurant? And if so, how? And are there other variables to be factored in?
