RJ you tell us you are optimistic about the ACC Network, and list some reasons for your hopefuness. This came only a few lines below your expressions of doubt about the future of the BTN cable network. Why is this model unsustainable for the B1G, but promising for the ACC?
As for the difference in per-team revenue, look for the B1G to make a huge leap in their next contract. They kept their last deal to a six year interval for a reason. The ACC and SEC have all and much, respectively, of their media rights tied up in long term ESPN deals. Consider that if cord cutting is injurious to the BTN, it is also harmful to ESPN and the ACCN.
A revenue gap over long term will be crushing for the ACC. We had better hope that ESPN can thrive against the new delivery formats, because we are tied to them almost FOREVER!
A word about "culture:" It means nothing. When you attend an away football game, do you really worry about the social, civic, or professonal life of anybody in the opposing fanbase? Do you care where, of if, they go to church? The common culture on Saturdays in the Fall is a lust for college football. The professoriate in the member schools may have some reservations about who joins their club, but there is no reason for sports fans to consider these thing, apart from "thuggism."
