One of the more recent scams

is to bundle school specific electronic media or access code "homework" with a NEW text book purchase. You can buy a used textbook (or get it online) and buy the electronic media/access separate, and that only saves a whole give or take 5% - they price the separate electronic media high.

They make it seem the price of the "unavailable elsewhere" electronic media is most of the cost of the bundle - when everyone knows the actual real cost is the printed textbook - evidenced by the only slightly lower cost of just the new textbook.

If you have to get the electronic media why would anyone scramble to save a few bucks on a textbook that might be highlighted, missing pages, etc.

This isn't all classes - but several currently at VT.
