Should fouling when up by 3 be allowed?
I was just thinking this while watching the MSU game. This is an unbiased opinion because I had MSU losing next round and Syracuse already out.
But, I'm starting to think that intentionally fouling when up by 3 in the final seconds of a game should be illegal. I get that intentional fouls are allowed at the end of the games, but that has traditionally always been by the team that is losing, so they are already at a disadvantage. And usually the fouling is a desperate attempt to try and catch up. As a result the refs let what are usually pretty blatant intentional fouls slide.
But when you are leading, you have the advantage. As a result there is no true need to foul. And I'm beginning to think that the obvious fouls that force the trailing opponent to only be able to score two points should be called as what they really are: intentional fouls.
Thoughts from anyone else?
